New Fiction –

Jacob’s Way by Gilbert Morris ‘The army makes a man hard sometimes. I remember a young girl no more than ten who gave me a glass of buttermilk just outside of Chancellorsville. I still remember that. I guess that’s all my life is. Some pictures fading out behind me, and there’s not much before me.’ Reisa listened as he spoke. She knew that he was a man who longed for goodness, and longed for friends, and perhaps even a wife and family. Finally she said, ‘I hope you find your way, Ben. God is real, and love is real.’ Fleeing a bloody pogrom that threatens their tiny Russian village, Reisa Dimitri and her grandfather, Jacob, sail the ocean to a new life in America. They are swiftly embraced by New York’s Jewish community. But God has other plans that will call them far from the familiar warmth and ways of their culture. Accompanied by their huge, gentle friend, Dov, Reisa and Jacob set out to make their living as traveling merchants in the post-Civil-War South. There, as new and unexpected friendships unfold, the aged Jacob searches for answers concerning the nature of the Messiah he has spent a lifetime looking and longing for. And there, the beautiful Reisa finds herself strangely drawn to Ben Driver–a man with a checkered past, a painful present, and a deadly enemy who will stop at nothing to destroy him. Fast-paced and tender by turn, Jacob’s Way is a heartwarming novel about human love, divine faithfulness, and the restoration of things that had seemed broken beyond repair.

Wonderland Creek by Lynn Austin Alice Grace Ripley lives in a dream world, her nose stuck in a book. But happily-ever-after life she’s planned on suddenly falls apart when her boyfriend, Gordon, breaks up with her, accusing her of living in a world of fiction instead of the real world. Then to top it off, Alice loses her beloved job at the library because of cutbacks due to the Great Depression.

Fleeing small-town gossip, Alice heads to the mountains of eastern Kentucky to deliver five boxes of donated books to the library in the tiny coal-mining village of Acorn. Dropped off by her relatives, Alice volunteers to stay for two weeks to help the librarian, Leslie McDougal.

But the librarian turns out to be far different than she anticipated–not to mention the four lady librarians who travel to the remote homes to deliver the much-desired books. While Alice is trapped in Acorn against her will, she soon finds that real-life adventure and mystery–and especially romance–are far better than her humble dreams could have imagined.

City at Tranquil Light by Bo Caldwell Will Kiehn is seemingly destined for life as a humble farmer in the Midwest when, having felt a call from God, he travels to the vast North China Plain in the early twentieth-century. There he is surprised by love and weds a strong and determined fellow missionary, Katherine. They soon find themselves witnesses to the crumbling of a more than two-thousand-year-old dynasty that plunges the country into decades of civil war. As the couple works to improve the lives of the people of Kuang P’ing Ch’eng― City of Tranquil Light, a place they come to love―and face incredible hardship, will their faith and relationship be enough to sustain them?

Told through Will and Katherine’s alternating viewpoints―and inspired by the lives of the author’s maternal grandparents―City of Tranquil Light is a tender and elegiac portrait of a young marriage set against the backdrop of the shifting face of a beautiful but torn nation. A deeply spiritual book, it shows how those who work to teach others often have the most to learn, and is further evidence that Bo Caldwell writes “vividly and with great historical perspective” (San Jose Mercury News).

About the Christian Life

The Kingdom Will Come Anyway by Robert J. Luidens The Kingdom Will Come Anyway: A Life in the Day of a Pastor opens a window into the world of a typical minister serving congregations in the midst of soul-stirring delights and heart-rending troubles. Pastor Bob Luidens paints a true-to-life portrait of moments in his life that have been evocative of humor and heartache, as well as inviting of conviction and confusion. This is a memoir that will resonate with church members and pastors, as well as college students and seminarians. The stories embedded in Pastor Luidens’s recollections are rooted in everyday life. But those same stories disclose God’s gripping work of restoration and renewal within that life–of a kingdom unstoppable in its coming into our midst. These stories will inspire and challenge each reader, just as the original experiences did with the author. The book I read was called Diary of a Pug: Pug Blasts Off! I liked the book because Bub is so funny and I LOVE Duchess, the cat! The story was about Bub the Bub. Obviously! Will they make something awesome or will it be a disaster?

Phoebe and her Unicorn is an amazing book. I love it because it’s about a little girl meeting a unicorn and having crazy adventures. If you love unicorns and crazy adventures, you will love this book too.

Heidi Heckelbeck authored by Wanda Coven by Reagan Nimmer

I like Heidi Heckelbeck because it’s about a little witch and her mom. Her mom is a witch too but the rest of her family is not, unless it’s her extended family! By the way the one I’m reading is not the first book in the series. I love Heidi because it’s easy to read and it’s funny.

Whatever After authored by Sarah Mlynowski by Reagan Nimmer

I like the Whatever After because these two kids named Abby and Jonah knock three times at midnight and their magic mirror takes them into different fairytales. So, if you like magic, this may be a book for you.

The dog jumped over the log and there he found a frog.

The cat wanted to wear a hat but inside the hat she found a rat.

The bunny ate the bee’s honey and then he found some money and that is very funny.

The cow found a plow but to use it he didn’t know how.

2nd Grade – School Day

I went to school It was really cool.

It was pizza for lunch I liked it a bunch.

We had a snack somebody went smack.

It was math time and I said a rhyme.

I did my best and aced my test.

It was time to play and it took almost all day.

It was time to play Hurray!

3rd Grade- School

I took a look into a book and then I shook, shook, shook.

Can I tell a story all about me and all about a mystery?

I have a dime do you mind giving me a rhyme.

I wish our school had a swimming pool I’d sneak in school to have a dip in the pool.

I started reading I found a cookbook I found an elevator for my feet and I made a nice beat.

I checked the clock but then it stopped I looked on the table and saw the label.

I wish we had dress down and then met a clown.

I wish we had math but we went the wrong path.

I wish we could use the elevator for my feet then they would have a good treat.

School is cool follow the rules and don’t be a fool.

School is cool unless there is a duel.

I took my part in art but then a cart from the store barged through the door.

4th Grade – Easter

That kid that locks his bike like a bunny Looks like he is very funny.

I’m out in my lawn looking for eggs, Next thing you know I am in my bed. Easter is fun, My time is done. Thank you, this was fun.

The bunny was funny and had a huge tummy

At Easter we hunt for eggs but all I found was a bunch of pegs. At Easter people have a certain reason To celebrate the blessed season.

Every treat is so sweet I can’t wait to eat.

Every Easter dawn while I lay down in my bed, I can hear the Easter bunny scratch his furry head.

5th Grade – Water

I sat by the water without a bother. I drank some water and wished I had gotten taller.

On the beach I sweat yet I also get wet.

The water is blue and the bird flew.

When I bathe my dog he gets wet. Yet he got his tongue in the net.

We drink it to survive It’s the only way we are alive. And did you know even mice drink melted ice

I love water that comes from a lake But I don’t like it hotter It can also be used to bake.

The water flows the current grows.

Water with ice Is so very nice. The water, beautiful as art Just fills my heart.

There was an otter in the water, The otter liked the water.

6th grade – Fantasy

A wizard gave his magical cape to his pet ape The dark and right had to fight The fight was bright And it was the middle of the night.

The witch had some mice. And fed them some rice. The thief had beef with a magical leaf

We gotta be running, it’s time to drill. We gotta be cold, we gotta chill

Just slayed a dragon, I got no shame, I took all the fame, I’m playing no game.

From time to time I fantasize About if the things I hear are truth or lies I took a drive and found alive a big red dragon with a crazy eye. I turned off my lamp and shut my eyes and off to dreamland my mind flies.

Dreams of faraway places and the memory filled with princes, castles, and magic or fairies. Up on a broomstick, witches cackled and flew but in our own minds, our imagination grew.

7th Grade – Spring

Spring, Spring, Spring playing fortunate with a ping, ping the doorbell goes ring-da-ding do-ding.

I am waiting for flowers to bloom Kiss winter goodbye and the gloom.

We went to the park to see some of the cherry berry. The breeze blows and flows on my clothes. We went to the farm, it was a charm.

The dew laid on the glass and sparkled like glass. After it froze, a flower rose, and flows and glows.

During the winter I was bored Now during spring the rain poured. In the night I can see the star, The star that is oh so far. In the beginning of spring I went to the bank My salary was so low I walked the plank.

Spring is in the air We play outside like we just don’t care. I don’t care about your hair I really care about the fair

The bunny was out when it was sunny, His nose was very runny and I thought it was kinda funny.

It was hot and sunny like a blaze, Sweat running down one like a glaze, And I watch as the kids would play Time was fading away.

Puddles in spring go splat Every other season I need a new hat.

8th Grade – growing up

I liked cards, my favorite was the ACE I would use the ace to trace.

One night I was running in the dark, I didn’t know I landed in the park.

Our time in childhood has been brief But it has caused much grief. I have lost my merry heart, But my words are not tart.

I don’t believe in fairies, But the bogyman was very scary. Now that I’m older I can put up a fight But sometimes my day blends with my night.

We went outside to play all day We want to do it our own way. Outside if we were tired we would lay down We were done laying on the lawn We were so tired we yawned.

People grow up fast Like a nuclear blast It’s not great All we can do is wait.

When you grow up you might get sick Puberty hits you in the head with a brick.

I finally learned how to spell “I’m growing up” so well When I was ten, me and my friend were growing up learning how to be like men.

Time flew before we could even blink Too old to cry, but not old enough to drink.

But what if Neanderthals could answer for themselves and tell us about their origins?
Now, for the first time, that is possible through the original research of Jack Cuozzo. Fascinated by Neanderthal Man for over two decades, Cuozzo, an orthodontist, has fashioned a research book that will clutch the attention of scientists and laypersons alike, for the Neanderthal family has finally emerged to tell a shocking story.

Peace on Earth Devotions and Activities for all the Days of Advent

Creation Facts of Life by Gary Parker

What happens when an evolutionary biologist is overwhelmed with scientific evidences of God’s plan in nature?

After three years of trying to “prove evolution” to skeptical professors in his science department, Gary Parker finally realized that the scientific evidence we see in God’s world agrees with what we read in God’s Word.

In Creation Facts of Life, Dr. Parker respectfully describes the evidences he once used to “preach” evolution–but then he explains how the “rest of the evidence” points away from evolution and toward a perfect world created by God, ruined by man, restored to new life in Christ! In easy-to-follow conversational style, Dr. Parker discusses:

  • DNA and genetics
  • Life before birth
  • Mutations
  • Adaptations
  • Natural Selection
  • Fossils
  • The Geologic Column
  • The Grand Canyon

In fact, the cults are very much a part of our everyday lives – and many of us don’t even know it! Join cult expert Ron Rhodes as he takes a fascinating look at why the cults have been so successful at spreading darkness all across out land. How can we counter the approaching darkness? and what must we know to protect ourselves, our families, our friends?

The Genesis Flood by John C. Whitcomb and Henry Morris

Regardless of where you are in life or what challenges you are facing, their advice will point you to Jesus, where our true hope is found!

Keepers of the Covenant by Lynn Austin FICTION

In one life-changing moment, the lives of the exiles in Babylon are thrown into despair when a decree from the king’s palace calls for the annihilation of every Jewish man, woman, and child throughout the empire in less than one year.

Ezra, a quiet but brilliant scholar, soon finds himself called upon to become the leader of his people. Forced to rally an army when all his training has been in the Torah, he struggles to bring hope in a time of utter despair, when dreams of the future–of family and love–seem impossible.

In Keepers of the Covenant, acclaimed novelist Lynn Austin weaves together the struggles and stories of both Jews and Gentiles, creating a tapestry of faith and doubt, love and loss. Here, the Old Testament comes to life, demonstrating the everlasting hope displayed in God’s unwavering love for His people.

Someone’s making a monkey out of you by Patrick Marks

Patrick Marks recently updated his book, Someone’s Making a Monkey out of you (check out the new cover!). The book is written to about an eight grader’s reading level, which makes this book simple and easy to understand. But don’t let that fool you. The concepts presented here are deep and life changing. Marks presents both sides of the creation debate fairly and is respectful towards those that do not share his point of view or beliefs. But he does not leave them any quarter though; the evolutionist has a lot to explain, and ultimately they cannot. The book is fully footnoted and referenced for those that desire to research each point more fully. Additionally I like the mnemonic tool at the end of each chapter that can serve as a tool to remember the content of each chapter. Overall this book provides an excellent primer and introduction to why belief in creationism is the rational and logical choice. Belief in evolution simply requires a greater leap in faith.

More than a Skeleton by Paul L. Maier Fiction

Joshua Ben-Yosef attracts a huge following. He was born in Nazareth to parents named Mary and Joseph and speaks more than a dozen languages―fluently and without accent. His words ripple with wisdom and authority. And the crowds that follow him are enthralled as he heals the sick, gives sight to the blind, casts out demons, and even raises the dead.

On this Foundation by Lynn Austin Fiction

When news that the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire, Nehemiah, Jewish cupbearer to King Artaxerxes in Persia, seeks God’s guidance. After fasting and prayer, he’s given leave to travel to Jerusalem and rebuild the city wall, not anticipating all the dangers that await him on his arrival.

The leaders of the surrounding nations become his fierce enemies, plotting to assassinate him and halt the work. A drought, meanwhile, has left the country impoverished, many families resorting to selling their children as bondservants just to keep from starving.

Capturing the rebuilding of the wall through the eyes of a number of characters, On This Foundation is a powerful exploration of faith in the midst of oppression, and hope that, in spite of appearances, the gracious hand of God is upon those who believe.

The Lie-Evolution by Ken Ham

The Bible prophetically warns that in the last days false teachers will introduce destructive lies among the people. Their purpose is to bring God’s truth into disrepute and to exploit believers by telling them made-up and imagined stories (see 2 Peter 2:1-3). Such a lie is among us – that lie is evolution!
Today many laypeople, ministers and Christian educators are powerless in their presentation of the gospel. They have rejected Genesis, the foundation of biblical doctrine. They have believed the modern origins myth – evolution.
This book is for you if: You believe that Genesis is not important to presenting the gospel You believe that what you think about Genesis does not affect you personally You believe that evolution can be made to fit the BibleYou are a witnessing Christian seeking to bring the gospel to this spiritually drifting world

After learning why the little bird feels left out, the Wolf hatches a plan to launch it to victory . . . A plan that just might involve the Wolf’s trademark striped undies. In the third tale of the Wolf in Underpants, Wilfrid Lupano and Mayana Itoiz present another laugh-out-loud lesson in finding common ground.

Witnesses to Christ: People from His Passion - Resources for Lent-Easter Preaching and Worship - Digital Edition
Witnesses to Christ Lenten Devotions

Forty-seven days of devotions from Ash Wednesday (March 2) to Easter Sunday (April 17) lead you through St. John’s Gospel, using the firsthand witness of the saints and villains in Christ’s Passion. These daily devotions complement the corresponding Witness to Christ Lenten sermon series.

About the Theme

This year’s series paints a stunning portrait of Jesus through the eyes the witnesses of His Passion in St. John’s Gospel. John tells us he wrote his Gospel: “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:30–31).

This Lent, strengthen your faith with the witness of those who were present as part of Jesus’ journey to the cross.

The Messiah:...
Messiah Revealing Jesus in the Old Testament

Beyond God’s promise of a Savior just after the fall in Genesis 3:15, do we really see much of Christ in the Old Testament? Well, if we take His New Testament words to heart, we must!

“You search the Scriptures…and it is they that bear witness to me!” (John 5:39)

Over eight sessions, The Messiah: Revealing Jesus in the Old Testament will lead you through the entirety of the Old Testament with daily readings, questions, and discussion prompts. After a brief introduction that reviews Christ’s earthly ministry, you will dive into the heart of the Holy Books that have spiritually nourished God’s people from creation to today!

Lord of Legends:...
Lord of Legends Jesus Redemption Quest

The Hero’s Journey has been repeated throughout all of history: from mythological tales of great warriors to fantasy novels on today’s bookshelves. These heroes are a source of inspiration and hope for all who listen to their thrilling stories. But, what if one of these heroes was actually real, rather than a tall-tale or passed-down mythology?

Jesus Christ is a real hero, born to save all of humanity from their villains: death, the devil, and sin. God created and perfected The Hero’s Journey through Him, from creating the Ordinary World, to fufilling the Chosen One prophecy of the Old Testament through Christ’s birth in the New Testament.

Come on an adventure with author Eric Eichinger as he unpacks the saga of Jesus’ Hero Journey. You’ll see how aspects of this journey are seen in popular stories, and how God used Jesus to create the most action-packed one with a real Savior for all.
